چکیده

In the course of light adaptation in the retina, the visual pigment, rhodopsin, which is located in the visual cell outer segment, releases vitamin A aldehyde (2, 3). The aldehyde is then enzymatically reduced to vitamin A (3) by reduced triphosphopyridine nucleotide (4) in the outer segment. The vitamin A is subsequently converted to vitamin A ester by the particulate matter of retinal tissue (5, 6). In view of these observations it has been generally assumed that the esterification of vitamin A also occurs in the outer se,ments of visual cells. In this report evidence is presented that this assumption is incorrect and that the esterification reaction occurs in retinal microsomes.

The Composition of Liver Vitamin a Ester and the Synthesis of Vitamin a Ester by Liver Microsomes.

The liver is capable of storing large quantities of vitamin A in ester form (1). However, some uncertainty still exists concerning both the composition of liver vit, amin A ester and the ability of the liver to esterify vitamin A. Vitamin A palmitate was isolated from fish liver many years ago (a), and recently it has been suggested that this ester is the principal if not exclusive (3, 4) ester ...

The Fatty Acid Composition of Human Retinal Vitamin a Ester and the Lipids of Human Retinal Tissue.

Human retinal tissue synthesized vitamin A ester through reactions associated xoith the operation of the visual cycle during light adaptation. The ester was isolated by chromatographic procedures and analyzed. The isolated vitamin A ester was found to be a mixture containing saturated and monoenoic Cn to C,3 fatty acids. The major components, comprising 90 per cent of the mixture, were vitamin ...

Reactivation of Cytomegalovirus in a Patient with Stevens-Johnson Syndrome-Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis

Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are severe adverse cutaneous reactions to drugs. We describe the case of a 19 year old patient with SJS/TEN overlap syndrome, who developed severe interstitial pneumonia after she had received antiepileptic drugs. A cytomegalovirus infection was diagnosed by Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) detection on Bronchoalveo...

Ultrasound Assisted In Situ Esterification of Rubber Seeds Oil for Biodiesel Production (RESEARCH NOTE)

Since the conventional esterification method requires longer processing time and obtain low yield, the intensification of this process is still interesting subject to be investigated. To reduce the oil extraction cost from seeds which almost 70% of total processing cost, in situ esterification has been recently introduced. The objective of study was to produce biodiesel from rubber seeds oil th...

Metabolism of the retina. III. The role of reduced triphoshopyridine nucleotide in the visual cycle.

Exposure of a dark-adapted retina to light results in the liberation of vitamin A aldehyde (retinene) from the visual pigment, rhodopsin, and in subsequent enzymatic reduction of the liberated aldehyde to vitamin A (1). The enzyme, alcohol dehydrogenase (retinene reductase), is present in visual cell outer segments and can use reduced diphosphopyridine nucleotide (DPNH) for the reduction of vit...
